The Journey of xamoom: Reinventing and Moving Forward
xamoom has been on an incredible journey of growth and transformation. From enhanced app functionality to powerful backend improvements, here's a look at what’s new and what’s next.
Introduction
Our story at xamoom has always been about innovation — finding ways to connect people with places and stories through meaningful technology. In the past year, we’ve embarked on a complete transformation, updating our core platform, enhancing our app, and laying the groundwork for a future with even more powerful capabilities.
As we unveil these improvements, we’re excited to share the journey that brought us here.
From Early Days to Expanded Horizons
xamoom’s beginnings were simple but ambitious: bring digital content to life at physical locations. Our projects, like Woerhersee Slow Trails or Geopark Karawanken confirmed that people loved engaging with local stories on their phones.
Over time, our platform expanded, helping cities, museums, and brands create unique, story-driven experiences for users worldwide. These successes inspired us to think bigger, adapt faster, and continuously improve.
Expanding Horizons and New Partnerships
As xamoom evolved, so did the range of our applications. Working with tourism boards, cultural institutions, and brands, we crafted rich, immersive experiences for users.
One project we’re especially proud of is Blaubeuren’s digital city tour, developed in collaboration with St. Elmo’s Tourismusmarketing GmbH. This project placed QR codes across the town, inviting visitors to delve into Blaubeuren’s history and interact with stories from local figures. It’s a prime example of how digital tools can make regional heritage more accessible and engaging for a broad audience.
Another standout project was our partnership with Kärnten Landesmuseum and thespell GmbH, where we helped transform the museum’s visitor experience. The project combined xamoom’s CMS and thespell’s storytelling expertise to create an innovative, multi-layered guide that enriched the visitor experience through location-triggered content. By incorporating audio guides, multimedia displays, and language-specific content, we enabled guests to navigate and appreciate exhibits in a way that felt personal and memorable. This collaboration not only strengthened our expertise in cultural storytelling but also showcased how xamoom’s technology could be adapted to both physical exhibits and digital displays.
Each of these collaborations has fueled our passion to innovate and make storytelling accessible, meaningful, and seamless. By enabling institutions to create experiences that resonate with visitors, we’re not just connecting people to places—we’re making stories come alive in ways that stay with them long after they’ve left.
A New Team, a Fresh Start
Our journey wasn’t without hardship. Following the sudden, tragic loss of one of xamoom's original founder, the company faced a period of uncertainty. It was a difficult time, and we found ourselves at a crossroads, grappling with how best to honor xamoom's original vision and the contributions of everyone who had been a part of it.
Yet, from this adversity, a new team came together.
We realized that xamoom’s foundation was stronger than any single person and that our shared goal—connecting people to the world around them—was worth pursuing with renewed purpose. With this, we began a fresh chapter, determined to continue building a platform that brings value and inspiration to our clients and their audiences.
A Year of Major Improvements and App Update
In the first few months of “xamoom New,” we’ve made numerous behind-the-scenes updates that are already improving daily use for our customers and their end-users. Here’s an overview of what’s new:
- Faster Load Times: Our Content Management System (CMS) on xamoom.net now loads up to 10 times faster, especially noticeable when loading entire pages. We achieved this by implementing a load balancer, which optimizes server distribution for quicker responses. This is just the start, with more improvements planned for loading times across various sections of the platform.
-
Enhanced Data Access: Customers now have finally again streamlined access to essential analytics, such as notification open rates, heatmaps, and other insights. If it’s not yet active for your system, please reach out to us.
-
App Rebuild: Our team completed a full rebuild of the smart app core, the foundation for all our client apps. This upgrade has introduced new login and navigation capabilities, improved content block types, and a more intuitive user experience, positioning xamoom as a stronger partner in mobile engagement.
- Server Upgrades: Several of our servers were upgraded, resulting in faster response times overall. While these backend updates may be invisible to the end user, they ensure a faster, smoother experience and lay the groundwork for more user-facing updates.
Looking Ahead: AI, Guides, and Customer Support Enhancements
Our focus on continuous improvement doesn’t end here. xamoom is expanding its feature set to better serve our customers, with several projects planned or already underway:
AI Integration:
Our commitment to AI isn’t new—we began integrating AI features into xamoom years before it became a trend. Our early AI-driven advancements, like using speech synthesis for audio guides, AI translation or Context Intelligences et the foundation for our platform’s versatility and enhanced user experience.
Here’s a quick look at one of these early innovations in action: Watch our 6-year-old AI feature in action.
Today, we’re building on this foundation with even more advanced AI capabilities. Planned features include content generation, intelligent chatbots, and semantic search, each designed to improve user engagement and provide seamless access to relevant information.
Guide Features:
Guided experiences have always been at the heart of what we do at xamoom. Over the years, we’ve brought engaging, interactive tours to life across many unique locations—from family-friendly adventures on the Fuchsfährte trail to immersive, educational experiences like the Herberstein Zoo’s Tierisch Cool app.
These projects, along with many others, have shown us the impact of well-crafted guides and the importance of memorable, location-specific content. Building on this experience, our team has been hard at work on new guide-related functionalities, focusing on enhanced audio guides, advanced guide management tools, and gamification options to make user experiences even more interactive.
We’ve also refined features like language adaptation and location-triggered content, ensuring that every user has a smooth, personalized experience, whether they’re exploring cultural sites, nature trails, or city tours.
These improvements are part of our commitment to creating meaningful, enjoyable experiences for visitors, and they continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible with digital guides on our platform.
